WATONGA, THE GATEWAY TO ROMAN NOSE STATE PARK, is located just an hour northwest of Oklahoma City. An easy drive from the City, this destination is perfect for a day trip or a weekend stay. Watonga offers history, recreation, and entertainment. Shop on Main Street for gifts and antiques, eat a hearty meal, and sample wine made on-site from Oklahoma grapes grown in the area.
The art deco style Liberty Theatre hosts live music shows and stage plays at various times of the year. Come out for the annual Watonga Cheese & Wine Festival in October for two days of fun for the whole family.
History enthusiasts will want to tour the T.B. Ferguson Home & Museum and see the gold-domed county courthouse built in 1906 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Roman Nose State Park, located just 7 miles from downtown, was built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and features natural springs and waterfalls, hiking and biking trails, camping sites, and a Park Lodge and Restaurant.
It also has one of the most unique and challenging golf courses in the State. Watonga and Roman Nose State Park host several seasonal events throughout the year. Spend the night at the Lodge or at one of the two unique bed & breakfasts in the area, and you will want to return to this area again and again.
