Perry, Oklahoma was born of the 1893 land run which opened the Cherokee Strip for settlement. At noon on September 16, 1893 the sound of a pistol signaled the beginning of the great race to stake a claim and take title to 160 acres of virgin land.
The town of Perry sprang up in a single day with 40,000 residents of the tent city by nightfall.
These determined settlers created a community on the plains that still thrives today. Centrally located on I-35, Perry is 60 miles north of Oklahoma City, 83 miles west of Tulsa and 100 miles south of Wichita for easy access to interstate highways, airports, railroad, education centers and major attractions.
