Wildlife: The Great Plains Trail of Oklahoma

“People don’t realize all the treasures we have in western Oklahoma. The trail is a gateway to exploring them.” Kenny Knowles, chairman of the Oklahoma Wildlife and Prairie Heritage Alliance, said.

The Great Plains Trail of Oklahoma consists of 13 highway-based, driving loops that span the entire western portion of the state, with dozens of stops in Red Carpet Country. Each loop guides travelers through areas with the best opportunities to view wildlife and includes designated stopping points on both public and private areas.

Rivers: Western Oklahoma River Road Run

Western Oklahoma River Road Run is held annually the 2nd Saturday of May through Blaine, Custer and Dewey Counties, along 240 miles of two-lane highways and all-weather county roads. The route is open all year, with driving directions posted on the WORRR website. This is a motorcycle poker run with 3 meals, good fellowship and great uncharted scenery that most didn’t know existed in Western Oklahoma.

Windmills: The Wind Power Trail

The Wind Power Trail is an interpretive driving loop that takes you to commercial wind farms, vintage windmill collections, and interesting waypoints along the highways and backroads of Texas and Oklahoma. The Wind Power Trail includes four stops in Red Carpet Country: Boise City, Guymon, Shattuck and Woodward.
