Guymon is Rodeo Country
Guymon Oklahoma is home to darn-near Oklahoma’s best rodeo — the Pioneer Days PRCA Rodeo. Voted “Best PRCA Outdoor Large Rodeo,” 850-plus contestants vie for several hundred thousand dollars in prize money. You might see 100 or more National Finals Rodeo qualifiers in four big rodeo performances. It’s preceded by a parade, trail rides, mule trains, square dances and all sorts of craft and Western arts shows. And a big barbecue. It’s always the first weekend in May. Just south of town, in Goodwell, is the Oklahoma Panhandle State University College Rodeo, one of the toughest college rodeos anywhere. While in Goodwell, home of the college, take in the No Man’s Land Museum!

Maybe you would like to be in a rodeo. Learn the art of bronc riding at the Etbauer Saddle Bronc School, held also in May each year. It’s free to spectators. Ouch.

There’s always something going on at the L&M Arena — every week during the spring and summer events are held in the venue. Kids gymkanas, team roping, and barrel racing are the favorites. Guymon also is home to one of the best 18-hole golf courses anywhere in Oklahoma — Sunset Hills Public Golf Course. It carries a 69 rating with a slope of 117. Huge trees and irrigated greens make for a golfers paradise in the rough, Guymon terrain.

Guymon offers a game reserve in town, the Suburban 8 Theaters, a cool walking trail and Sunset Lake at Thompson Park and enough motels and restaurants for weeks of hanging around. We might even find some places to tie up your horse or bull!
