Nothing Plain About It
With vibrant shopping, amazing attractions and stories of it’s heritage throughout the community, Enid offers more than ever before. The largest community in northwest Oklahoma, Enid literally sprung up from the dust on Sept. 16, 1893, when 100,000 land-hungry settlers charged into the Cherokee Strip Outlet to claim their free land and start their new lives. A visit to the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center reveals a new Smithsonian-quality facility that tells the settlers’ story in a way that puts you right in the saddle astride your galloping horse toward the Land Run office.
Nearby is Government Springs Park, a historic landmark on the legendary Chisholm Trail. A visit to the park’s Dillingham Garden is a must-see any time of year where bronze sculptures portray the settlers’ stories. For family fun, don’t miss Enid’s hands-on science museum, Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse and Adventure Quest. Take in a ballgame at one of the Midwest’s finest sports facilities, David Allen Memorial Ballpark. And a trip to Enid would not be complete without hearing the story of the world-class dining car china collection on display as part of one of the largest collections of railroad material in the United States at the Railroad Museum of Oklahoma.
There’s always something new and exciting happening in Enid’s historic downtown district. You can feel the vibrancy of this boom town walking the downtown streets filled with unique shopping and dining experiences. The town square comes alive during the First Friday evening of every month. The Cherokee Strip Conference Center is northwest Oklahoma’s premier meeting facility, and one of the best downtown Christmas displays occurs the night after Thanksgiving when Enid Lights Up The Plains.
Enid offers over 800 lodging rooms, a vast assortment of dining options, and shopping from national retail stores to the quaint, locally-owned shops at Heritage Hills Shopping Center.
Enid has something any visitor will enjoy, and VisitEnid.org has current information to help you plan your visit.
Historic Main Street Enid encompasses the entire downtown area – be sure to visit the Cherokee Strip Conference Center, Oklahoma’s premier meeting facility — 17,000 square feet of conference meeting space for trade shows, seminars and performances. It’s the crown jewel of downtown Enid. Finally, end your day with a spring ballgame at David Allen Memorial , one of the best ballparks in small-town America.
Enid has the largest exposition center in Red Carpet Country — the Chisholm Trail EXPO Center at the Garfield County Fairgrounds.

Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center
On September 16, 1893, over 100,000 gathered on the borders of the Cherokee Outlet, eager to claim one of 40,000 homesteads laying the foundation for a vibrant and successful region … northwest Oklahoma. Today, the pioneer spirit that is this region’s heritage is the inspiration and force for its future.
Visitors to the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center are greeted by the “Homesteader,” a wonderful bronze sculpture by renowned western artist, H.T. Holden. The Heritage Center stands on one of the most historic spots in the history of the West, overlooking beautiful Government Springs Park, a historic watering hole on the Chisholm Trail. The center itself is a magnificent 24,000 sq. ft. Smithsonian quality facility featuring five new galleries with state-of-the-art exhibits, 2,000 sq. ft. of rotating exhibit space, a theater, a research center, a visitor center and a regionally-inspired gift shop featuring local artisans’ products to Hollywood films about the pioneer experience.
The Center’s Humphrey Heritage Village features four historic structures, including the only remaining 1893 U.S. Land Office where those making the run came to register their claims. The grounds provide a beautiful setting for events and weddings. The Center and the grounds meet all ADA requirements.
