Cities

Canton

Canton, Oklahoma is well-known for one of the nation’s oldest and most successful fishing tournaments — the Canton Lake Walleye Rodeo. Canton Lake, just north of town, is big and beautiful and a centerpiece of tourism and recreation for the entire area. The Walleye Rodeo is held every May with prizes averaging more than $30,000. There’s a carnival, a kids fishing derby, street dancing, a parade and craft show and best of all, great food and fun. The lake permanently offers ramps, five multi-use areas, a swimming beach, 45 miles of shoreline and more than 7,500 acres of cool, clear water. It’s a fisherman’s paradise, with walleye, crappie, white bass, channel catfish and large-mouth bass. Grab your sailboat too—the lake often has dozens out and about. Canton itself is a great fuel stop, has motel service and bait and tackle shops. Good eating too.

Watonga

Watonga is located approximately 70 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, with a population of 4,500. The county seat of Blaine County, Watonga was named after the Arapaho Chief, Wa-Ah-Dan- Ga-Ah, which means Black Coyote. Having retained its turn-of-thecentury plains architecture, much of Watonga’s buildings have been restored to their early appearance. Enjoy the historic feel of these buildings as you browse for antique treasures and specialty gifts in stores located on Main Street.

Watonga was the childhood home of Clarence Nash, the voice of Donald Duck. The Ferguson Museum, home of Oklahoma’s sixth Territorial Governor, T.B. Ferguson, makes for a fascinating visit. On the grounds you will find Watonga’s first jail, along with the U.S. Cavalry Relay Station. Just south, visit the Ferguson Chapel, built in 1901 and restored in recent years, it is now available for weddings, receptions and meetings. Friday and Saturday during the second weekend of October brings thousands of visitors to the annual Cheese Festival for cheese tasting, live music, shopping and fun!

Enjoy the elegance and the inspiration of the Noble House Bed & Breakfast and Restaurant in Watonga, Oklahoma. The Noble House building is listed on the National Registry of Historical Buildings. Delight in the attractiveness & intrigue of your room, inspired by the legacy of a favorite Watonga citizen. All rooms have TV’s, DVD’s and internet connections. An excellent restaurant is downstairs.

Watonga is the home to Roman Nose State Park, and the recently remodeled Lodge and Restaurant (excellent food!) It’s one of Oklahoma’s unique attractions and a great place for a round of golf, hiking, fishing or camping, all with beautiful canyon views! The Chamber of Commerce offers Step-On Tour Guides for all of the above sites.
