Smithsonian traveling exhibit on food will stop in Waynoka

The Waynoka Historical Society will be hosting a Smithsonian traveling exhibit from April 28 – June 9, 2012. “Key Ingredients” explores 500 years of the history of food in America. Waynoka is one of six sites in Oklahoma selected to host the exhibit. It will be at the Waynoka Harvey House at the west end of Waynoka Street next to the BNSF Transcontinental Railroad.

On Saturday,May 12  at 1:30 p.m., the Oklahoma Family and Community Education groups in Woods County are in charge of programming at the Smithsonian Museum-on-Main-Street exhibit, Key Ingredients, at the Waynoka Depot..  Karen Armbruster is advisor for the groups.
They will  display  historical aprons, and have demonstrations of making butter from cream. Visitors can participate. They will be making bread the old fashioned way and with bread machines. They will demonstrate making bierocs and provide samples. There are five Oklahoma Home and Community Education groups in Woods County, and all five will be participating.  Their website is ohce.org.
Their organization began in 1912 as Home Demonstration Clubs with agents in 11 counties. They are present in 72 counties today.
